some sweet-ass sites out there. i surfed instead of getting onto the comp problem and happened upon http://fusionanomaly.net/networks.html
fusionanomaly seems like a wicked web of pages about a great variety of subjects, with many hyperlinked words, pictures, etc that refer you to pages on the subject of the hyperlinked (i hope i'm using the appropriate word here) word/pic/whatev that u clicked on that took u there. i may not be explaining it very well, so just go there and check it out for urself.
in the process of writing this wee entry i actually started working on the comp problem. my friend's HD is fooked - first i figured out that the floppy drive wasnt working b/c the ribbon cable was plugged into it with the wrong connector - i was supposed to use the one with the few wires in the middle twisted around, not the straight-thru. so the maxtor HD utility said it fixed whatev was wrong but each time i tried to start the comp i got the same prob. and every time it would find a prob and say it fixed it and every time it wouldnt boot up. so the HD is toast. now i'm checking my HD. i have 3 HD's on my comp - the maxtor one is the one that failed - whichever time in a row. the short test of the maxtor utility prog detects a problem, the full on one doesnt. plus my chip recently started overheating sometimes. right now i got my gf's fan sitting in front of the comp, i took the housing walls off, and the beeping stopped. my bro told me to just raise the warning temperature in BIOS to like 60 C. its at 56 right now i believe. he says he's got his chip running at 80 C. i donno - its not really solving the prob. when i have time i'm gonna have to give that comp a good dusting. talked to my buddy's gf yesterday and she swears by her mac. e-mac i believe. never got a virus. her comp crashed once in the last year and change. all she had to do was to turn it off and back on. never happened again. its quiet. takes up no space. looks cool. got it for a grand and they threw in the printer. it came with speakers - she just recommends maybe getting a base speaker. i rarely use my comp speakers - if anything i use the headphones. she uses firefox mozilla so she never gets popups. got some email prog that brings in emails from 5 diff email accts she's got out there. i'm gonna go over to her place soon and check it out for myslef. i think it would be worth it - save on all the hassle, AND have a cool looking comp :)
realistically, i use (or used to use) my comp to strictly check email, surf the net, do my banking, download songs, some anime, but not much, play music. i dont really have the time to play games. no patience to learn to play very involved ones. sometimes i rem with nostalgia the duke nukem, doom, warcraft II, starcraft, myst but dont even have time to play those again. so if i get a mac and have the time one day, i'm sure i can play those oldies thru a win emulator or whatever they use.
but we'll see.
man, i noticed that sometimes i can bog down a bit into chat typing mode with my abbrev's... :D
friggin' simon posford rules. his "music name" (check out the eloquence! not) is hallucinogen. i wonder if he uses psychedelics, or if its just a clever name. and if he does then what, how much, how often, when, with what intent, how. a lot of stuff is "fun", but i'm kinda shying away from simply frivolous use of "stuff". i dont know that many smot pokers who speak of pot addiction. i guess it depends what u consider an addiction. luckily the stuff doesnt kill, but for me, very frequent use has started to encroach on my life in ways i hadn't thought it would, or even could. i did hear about the adverse effect on memory. but didnt realize it could unbalance my moods. when i wasnt smoking that is. when i found what i like about it, i couldnt believe more ppl didnt smoke it. when coming up, it was relaxing as hell, a bit euphoric, my worries were put in perspective, i didnt mind doing my chores, the amazing ideas and trains of thought that occured to me while doing some mechanical, thoughtless activity like driving home in traffic or showering - really cool ideas and realisations. plus, everything seemed so much cooler - going for a walk was awesome! but shortly after, when it leveled off, i'd start feeling tired and sleepy - so that was not a good thing in the middle of the day. and my memory just wasnt as good even when i was completely down. and adversities really brought me down - thats just nasty. me and a friend both really like pot, but we both think we do it too much and it occurred to us that it would be really cool to bring it to the same level as our alcohol use. we'd drink like once in a blue moon. smoking once in a blue moon like that would mean that we'd still be able to enjoy all the good things that pot brought to our lives, without its negative effects. ppl should be more educated about the "stuff" available out there. alcohol was prohibited in north america for a while too. it came back. it has a good side and a negative one. i'd still vote for the legalisation of marijuana - but coupled with EDUCATION.
i havent yet seen any negative effects of mushrooms or acid. i wonder if its because i havent done it enough times to get the full picture. it took 3 years to come to my conclusion about pot. then there's also the factor of everyone being different. i work with a guy who has one shot of alcohol or a beer, and he turns red right away and gets buzzed. thats quite a low tolerance. cheap for him to get drunk tho - when he does drink. i'm like that with pot. a friend dubbed me a "one toke wonder". i wonder if it would have sounded better if he stuck with the original expression of "one hit wonder" :) either way - to me the song "smoke two joints" is just unreal. but i know there are ppl like that.
i'm just raaaambling... :)
so back to simon posford = hallucinogen. some really cool trax. i love his style. what he does is magic. one of his more recent trax includes a sample from what seems like an interview with some 60's acid advocate:
"There is an area of the mind which can be called unsane, beyond sanity. And yet not insane. Think of a circle with a fine split in it. At one end there's insanity. You go around the circle to sanity, and on the other end of the circle, close to insanity, but not insanity, is unsanity." i think the dude later goes on to say that acid helps to bring us close to the unsanity region. but that kinda sounds like quite dated pop-psychology talk. what is sanity?
anywho - a few hours have passed, i went to dictionary.com for a good deffinition of sanity - that window is still frozen - no sanity deffinition. but i managed to get my own comp running- for some reason my old installation of windows now works, so thats kinda cool for the moment. about the sanity circle - i guess more or less what i was trying to get at was that ppl seem to like paraphrases - i suppose its a way to try and understand something unknown. when u deal with the unknown further, u come to know it for its own unique qualities.
paraphrases and cryptic sayings. something about these being key factors in the success of Jesus, Confucius, Shakespeare, etc. but the sanity thing - i dont know - i think the word "sane" has its roots in the meaning "healthy" - its just that it now is used of mental health. we say that someone who is mentally healthy is normal. normal as in conforms to the "norm" - what seems to be thecase for most ppl. but evolution is a history of change, of taking the risk to deviate from the norm. ppl who are insane are just ppl who are different than the norm in the mental health department. for now - the norm is the way to go - works in favor of millions of ppl surviving. but as genetic mutations, different ideas and different environments keep throwing up "different" models, or variations on the "norm", one day we might see that a certain "model" of human seems to be better and is becoming the new norm. or environmental pressures change in favor of a till-then minority - the norm will get forced out of existence and the new norm will fill the void. there - what a nutshell! :D
ok - i'm going :)

it is becoming apparent to me that i dont "like" to "create" or "produce", and am most at ease observing. such a lifestyle is doomed to fail. extinction. i mean, i work for a living but i dont really like it most of the time. one has to contribute to the world, the society one lives in - otherwise one's just a parasite. hehe - isnt one :)
i like to listen, read, watch, look, accompany, but rarely if ever do i actually "generate" anything. seems like i just respond to stimuli - a friggin' glorified cuckaroach. right now i'm supposed to be fixing a comp for a friend of my rents' - and it involves having to learn and troubleshoot and figure out just why the bloody thing wont work. this could be viewed as an exciting prospect - exploring, learning and all that jazz. but i got some internal brakes firmly on. i think it was easier to "just do it" when i smoked pot. i think i'm more productive when i smoke pot. then i dont seem to mind nearly as much getting into unfamiliar territory or whatever adversities. or doing something i dont really feel like doing or dont like. seems like i'd rather talk about it instead of just doing it.

i'm really starting to get annoyed with blogger - the layout keeps getting messed up for no apparent reason and its just so cumbersome when it comes to pics. i almost had a coronary yesterday, trying to put my pic in my profile. first i had to download/install "hello", then upload my pic - but that was ok. i rem'd my gf saying something about having to actually post a pic and then open it, copy the addy from the bar and then insert that in the pic url space in the profile editor. then it turned out that my pic was by far too big. as in gi-normous: a wild science-ficionesque size of 1.2 megs or something, compared to the until-then undisclosed top limit of 50 kb. 50 kb? i envisioned having to reduce the quality of the pic until the pixelization (or is it pixelation?) made it impossible to tell whether it was a pic of a weather balloon or a kettle. THEN i had to resort to using my gf's pic software "mgi photo suite" - which had severe problems with the adjustments i wanted to make AND save. but i managed. then the friggin' "hello" crapped out and just kept going to a settings screen and after that it was invariably to an error page. i loogged out and back in - same thing.
but in the end i got an under 50kb pic that doesnt look like a tea pot and my gf somehow managed to get that pic onto my blog, and i really shouldnt bitch nearly as much because her comp at least works :)
i'm not sure i like my tendency to just use blogger for venting these days. i'd rather contribute to a positive world. almost 3 weeks no pot! :D

yet another day as an ant. how bad does this get? i guess i could still lose my job and have to move back to my parents' AGAIN and get some terminal disease.
my gf just got pissed off at me for not coming to bed with her. life sucks. shouldnt things be on the up now that i'm not smoking? its only 10:24 for fux sakes.

2 weeks no pot
thats right - 14 days :)
i like pot, but there's a time and place for it. without me realising it, it'd invaded my life and i kept turning to it for feeling good - but it was impairing me in some ways and finally i decided that i needed to level out emotionally *without* being adversly affected in terms of memory, sexual performance, concentration and comprehension. it may soom odd to some that a shroom trip helped me crystallise these thoughts and finally the decision :)
true - i've been turning to beer for a sort of consolation a bit, but even that's pretty much gone now,so thats awrite :)
if i'm having this much trouble with pot then i'm thankful i never got into anything hardcore :)
i'm sorta toying now with the idea of trying to get somewhere deeper with psychadelics, some sort of understanding, revelation, illumination..? and i still havent really hallucinated yet... :(
sometimes i wonder whether its all bullshit, but then i remember my friend alek's amazing, if frightening, mushroom experience. so it is possible. but perhaps not for everybody :(
but no more unexamined, purely recreational substances :)
but so often, like this evening, i find myself a bit low: i passed yet another day like an ant: went to work, did my stupid work for chump change, under supervisors who are less knowledgeable/intelligent than me, drove home, did some chores, tried rushing off to help parents' friends with their comp problem, got stuck in traffic, wasted a bunch of time, didnt solve the problem, bothered my brother in edmonton with a friggin' free tech support phone call, ended up taking their comp with me to hopefully fix it home, got back home, did chores to only slightly diminish the depressing backlog of shit that still needs to get done and needed to get done for a while now, and then the gf wants to go to sleep... i havent LIVED today yet! i refuse to live out my life doing stuff i dont like or barely tolerate! i'm here for me! it's got to be worthwhile!
so at least i messed with the blog for a bit. oh, did i mention my comp died? good thing my gf's got one of her own - that way we're not *totally* cut off from the world. real life kinda sucks. or maybe i'm going about it all wrong. maybe i'm too pessimistic. how do i get more optimistic?
still gotta shower before hitting the sack...

so, my new year's resolution was to quit the pot - well more like reeeeally minimise it - to like once or twice a month. so far its been a week and i guess i'm doing awrite - although i've been having a beer or 2 almost every day - phx is not too happy about that - we'll see how things develop. sometimes i feel like life is shit and there's no fucken way i wanna go thru it sober - its just too shitty. i dont know a single truly happy individual who has to support themselves. ok maybe there's my friend montoyo - but he's finding it really hard to quit pot. so i guess thats taking away from his happiness. life is a constant struggle. i guess that s one way it can be seen. i dont wanna believe that point of view tho. i dont want it to be all that there is to it. i try to see it in other, more positive ways. i need to be happier, or else its not worth it. who am i gonna suffer thru life for? but it seems like to get to a point where i might be happier i must first fight an uphill battle against myself - my nature, my character/personality. i have to work hard to get to a hopefully better existence. i've sorta been trying but can i actually do it? i know i should just do it - but its so unbelievably hard! i m trying and i'm hitting my head against a brick wall. i dont wanna work hard at some stupid shit - and there's no way of living any kinda lifestyle without doing just that. but i gotta keep on trying.

re: the universe as a readout
turns out that the universe as a readout idea has already been thought of - like when i was a year old. i was just listening to the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy when it dawned on me - that's my idea!
:(
but hey - life keeps moving on.
ok - time for beddy

the week just keeps getting better :)
granted - monday sucked. but tuesday was deffinitely better - and now at the end of wednesday i'm really happy :)
just got back home from watching the old Dune movie at my parents'. and my gf liked it! :D
hella cool :)
i just need to find the looong version somewhere, on dvd if i can. i'm already asking my gf if she wants to see the remake and then the children of dune.
its been a while since i first saw that movie in its entirety - on acid :)
that same night i also saw the new version. and i've seen the old version a few times since, and it still reveals something new to me every time i see it. i think i'd give partial credit for liking the movie to acid's "awe and wonder" effect, but every time i've seen it after (straight), that's only been reinforced. one day i've got to find the time to read the book - there must be so much more in there than even the "looong" version of the movie is able to convey! hehe - i wonder if there's a version of it on tape or cd somewhere...
i used to read so much, i loved it! but since i started working - there's just been no time. working and partying. and watching tv. and got a car. and loans. and a gf. now i dont even have time to party. hardly ever at all. and the only reading i ever do is online. or tech manuals.
whine whine - bitch bitch.
this really cool portuguese guy Antonio who's about 50 sometimes starts talking about his problems, like many other people, but then he stops himself and says "ah, but thats my problems - u dont need to hear about that". and one time he threw in "in my language we say 'but lets talk about better things. so whats the price of a funeral these days?'" dude's hilarious. he'd recently moved here with his wife and 2 kids pursuing a dream, an adventure - to live in the beautiful experiment in true multiculturalism that canada is. but its tough to start from scratch. at 50. but he's glad he's pursuing his dream - despite their difficulties and disillusions. a runaway mid-life crisis? perhaps - but what an effect! what an adventure! and he can still decide to go back home if things dont work out here. and he will be that much richer a person. very interesting and inspiring dude to listen to.

pms
so it turns out it WAS pms after all. my gf got her period 2 days ago - brutal. and i can tell she still tries NOT to take midol and in the middle of being in pain she said that she would still not go on the pill to regulate and ease her menstruation. its her zero-drug upbringing.
we havent really talked about the letter she left me - the one about how we wont continue together if i decide to keep using drugs. what a dirty sounding phrase. pot and acid / shrooms. and i havent even done acid or shrooms for ever. cant find acid anywhere and shrooms i've had very disappointing results with.
well - time to go and get my sweetie her breakfast - at least she is eating something :)

happy work
i need to completely change my relationship with work. presently i friggin hate going to work. perhaps i was raised like that - grew up with the understanding of work as some sort of a chore, worse than most chores because u must do it all the time and under fairly strict rules. but it'd just occurred to me, while i was having a shower, that, to someone doing some other sort of work, my job might seem pretty cool. installing a whole access control system into a tower, actually 2! and all the alarms. i get to do a lot of the planning - its up to me how its gonna go! and then at the end of it all i get to see people using it all the time, and this big, complicated system works - and i installed it! :D the bitch is the time constraints - the boss wants to maximize profits, and so he's also cheap in very annoying ways. but fuck him - i think it will be good for me to start taking pride in my work - i'll make sure everything is as good as it can be, and will work awesome :) unfortunately these cheap cunts wanna spend the absolute minimum amount of money possible - but i gotta keep pushin my way. and maybe if they like how well i get things done, then maybe they'l allow me a little extra freedom, maybe they'll spend a little more money on my projects... and if not then i'll just take lots of pix of my work and have a portfolio to show prospective future employers :)
and it should simply make me feel better about going to work every day - i'll be psyched to get there and make every day a work of art, a labour of love... :)
man - i didnt think it was possible to write so tenderly about work :D
i am a sick pervert - getting this excited about work :P

ha!
riiiight - just take the water pump off...
*grumble grumble*
to take the water pump off u must take the alternator off - check section 10 or whatev. so i go there, find it and it says - to take alternator off, u must take the power steering out! ok - that p'd me off a wee bit. many hours later i finally took off both. then it turned out i had to take the tensioner pulley bracket off too. but not before i tried hard to pry the stupid pump off - to no avail. the tensioner bracket had a bolt hidden underneath. well- i finally did manage to get the waterpump off - hope that was the only problem, although i know it is not likely :(
ok - now to bed i said! :D

the talon - being gutted out

still wrenching... :)
finally got the timing belt off - now for the water pump! :D
then try to recombobulate ebryting back together - wonder how long thats gonna take...
i already know i messed up the grooves on the crankshaft pulley with the friggin' chain-wrench - so i'll have to fix that up before putting it back on. hope it can be done w/o having to buy a new one.
i wonder how many ppl are blogging about the Baslan massacre today. sad day. and this shit happens all over the world regularly. i wonder how this is going to affect things are in russia. i heard on tv and agree that russia is going to invest even more in the military, and even more money is going to be pulled away from everything else. so a poorer, more militarised russia? this cant be good. there's probably gonna be a lot of attacks on innocent muslims and even "darker looking" russians. and all because of a handful of desperate, misguided, stupid people. i imagine they all felt justified in what they were doing. their families have probably been severily hurt and decimated by the russian - chechen conflict. they've likely lost children of their own. but they should have been smarter than that. they should have understood that no one in their right mind will release people from jail who will create even more grief the first chance they get. holding children hostage will only make u more enemies. whatever faith they are - their god is supposed to be a merciful god, who does not condone violence. armed conflict does not solve anything - unless maybe if ur an overwhelmingly huge army that will effortlessly thwart their enemy - but even then... usually change takes time. but if ur impatient and arrogant - then maybe you should be killed before u do anybody any harm.
i'm just ranting. but i guess i'm a bit shocked. in times like this i just try to think that even though horrible things like this happen - humanity just keeps ploughing ahead. we should all do our part and try to make this world better for our kids and their kids - but when shit happens, i guess we cant let it stop us. emotions are such a detriment so often. ppl pay great attention to how they're feeling. i bet that's the single biggest reason for drug addiction. including alcoholism. and cigarettes. possibly coffee. and sugar. chocolate probably forming part of it.
did i mention that i hate stupid people? cant really kill'em tho - might as well make them work and make my life a little more comfortable. i think i can see society clearly separating in the future into 2 classes - stupids and smarts. i wonder if eventually we'll become 2 species...
well - there's smarts and smarts. but i guess there's been an upper class of ppl for a long time - all the old dynasties and noble families - they've been having poor people work for them for generations upon generations. if ur family stays consistently at a standard of living higher than the average, *especially* in the face of adversity - then i'd say chances are good that ur DNA is predisposed for that higher standard of living, above the average human. is it gonna get to the point where we're like the alien civilisation from "alien nation" - i forget what species they were supposed to be. maybe even more so. like humans and monkeys.
i'm yawning something fierce here - maybe i should hit the hays already..? but i still wanna take out that water pump - that shouldnt be that hard - i just have to do it. and then shower. and THEN hit the sack.
well - best git on it :)

did i mention that i hate stupid people? cant really kill'em tho - might as well make them work and make my life a little more comfortable. i think i can see society clearly separating in the future into 2 classes - stupids and smarts. i wonder if eventually we'll become 2 species...
well - there's smarts and smarts. but i guess there's been an upper class of ppl for a long time - all the old dynasties and noble families - they've been having poor people work for them for generations upon generations. if ur family stays consistently at a standard of living higher than the average, *especially* in the face of adversity - then i'd say chances are good that ur DNA is predisposed for that higher standard of living, above the average human. is it gonna get to the point where we're like the alien civilisation from "alien nation" - i forget what species they were supposed to be. maybe even more so. like humans and monkeys.
i'm yawning something fierce here - maybe i should hit the hays already..? but i still wanna take out that water pump - that shouldnt be that hard - i just have to do it. and then shower. and THEN hit the sack.
well - best git on it :)
*still* wrenching on the car again...
the crankshaft pulley bolt wont come off - cant turn it! :(
i've been dousing it with WD-40 , then this liquid wrench wanna be whatchacallit. for some reason the instructions said to take one of the engine mounts off and THEN try to get that friggin crankshaft bolt off - well - the whole engine moves! so - back on the mount goes.
i got a digital camera! :D tooo sweet! :D bought it from my friend marcin for $65 just the other day - i rike it a rot! :D
goin' be postin' me sum pitchers n'this here blawg perty soon! :D
but first i gotta find out from my gf how its done :D
ok - back to the car.
but i'm happy i've already cleaned up so much today! :)
ok - before all this happiness goes - i best git to it now :)

wrenching on the car again...
or trying not too :)
feeling slightly apprehensive about making sure the #1 piston is at TDC, taking off the left engine mount while making sure the engine is supported by "something" from underneath that at the same time wont damage the oil pan, then discombobulating ebryting on the LHS of the engine - including all the pulleys and timing belt cover, which will include using the mysterious chain wrench to hold the crankshaft pulley while i loosen the bolt that holds it in place - all the while making sure i dont actually move the cranshaft from TDC, taking the timing belt off - to finally get to take out the water pump which i *think* is where my water leak is at. then put on the new timing belt, re-combobulate ebryting and hope to hell it all works afterwards. THEN i'll see if the elusive oil leak resurfaces - i dont want to lose 3/4 of my oil on the side of the highway again. why the fuck is this goddam blog eating some letters while i'm writing it??!! grr.
well - les'go'n'git to it... :0

bleh...
man - its like 11pm - life sux - my gf is on a downer again, unsure of our relationship, went for icecream with a neighbour back home with whom she almost got in a relationship back in the day. i guess i have doubts about us too, but its always harder to be dumped than to dump, sucks not to be in control. plus i'm tired so everything sucks that much extra.
my gf just came back online - guess i'm gonna talk to her.
talking to my gf right now - sounds like the icecream with neighbour didnt go too well...
oh - icecream and movie was fine - but then he said he was going to sleep cause he was tired, and so she left and then a bit later he drove off in his car somewhere - didnt feel like sleeping anymore? maybe.
anywho - my gf is sounding much more positive and sounds more committed to our relationship again. i hate rollercoasters like this. maybe one day we will have to finally decide that our respective ways of living are unacceptable in some way to one another. well, i hope we could remain friends - but that happens so rarely. but i do care for her a lot and want to be there to help when she needs it.
today was such a wasted day. yesterday i went to my boss' barbecue - many hours and vodka shooters later i must have passed out in the bathroom after puking my guts out. and i guess the boss and probably one of the senior tech's must have carried me back to the living room to the couch. yup - that surely must have won me their respect and admiration.
oh well - live and learn.
so today was spent mostly on recuperating from yesterday. i watched most of the 5th element - which i'd bought recently. and read all of my gf's blog for the month.
well - time to get going - i wanna sleep at my gf's place in new west - i should probably still do the dishes there, like i said i would. we'll see.

ideas from like 1999... :O
an ellipse is just a distorted circle (and vice versa), but together with a square and a triangle, they're all "outlines", so what? why are these "the basic geometrical shapes", who thought of them first, and are they in some way universal to humans? if these ideas of geometrical shapes were never introduced into a society, how would they evolve? what would their thinking process be like? would they come up with this shit on their own? who would? any particular type of people? i'd love to find out how humans learned of geometrical shapes. they dont seem to really occur in nature. never seen a triangle or a square. i think there's some hexagonal column looking rocks out there - this certain type of rock cools into shapes like that when cooling from a liqid state or something. but i dont think there's even a circle out there in nature. actually - the sun and the moon...
a sine wave is a circle but with time passing forward ? a circle is a sine wave when time moves back and forth. the time must go forth only by as much as the amplitude (height) of the sine wave, and back as soon as the wave reaches the level of origin. forth again when the the time of origin is reached. would it work the same if the point of origin was not "on the left"? (up, down?) an "infinity" shape (8) would be reached when time starts from it's own centre and then backs up by it's radius. circular time? how do you move time? how do you move space? you don't - you move within it. can we go any direction in space? if so, why not in time? maybe we do. who said we're moving foreward in time? maybe it's relative. just why did we think it's foreward? maybe one of our properties is to move like this and that in time and space? what if other beings moved like this and that in time, but not in sapce? or some limited way in time but not in space at all, or just "foreward" in space. how do you meet somebody that travels back in time? depends, maybe at what speed theyre going. maybe not - maybe u'd only exist "at the same time" for such an infinitessimally short period of time that u'd never see them... i can imagine speed in space and time, just like distance, but what about direction? seems infinite w/ space, but bi-directional in time. for me.
any ideas? comments?
if god exists, then does he use the decimal system? as implied by the 10 commandments...
or was the decimal system created because since god gave us 10 commandments then that number - like everything else of god - must be perfect. why do we put a punctuation mark in math after 3 digits? why not aftre 4 or 2 or whatev?
have the hebrews been using the decimal system at the time of the emergence of the 10 commandments?

first blog for tommy! :D
i read some of my gf's bloggage and i've finally decided to go nike on its booty and just do it! :)
i plan to post a crapload of "stuff" i'd written in the past but never had the patience to actually build a website or nuthin'.
La-Z :(
its not a sin - its a friggin' horrible affliction - it makes life suck; it's the stuff nightmares are made of
*puke*
thank you

crypto-theorising... :)
by my friend with the breath that stings the eyes...
to decrypt a message, one (well, probably more like a team) will probably start by trying to match the frequency of certain characters in the encoded message to the average frequency of characters in any other type of writing. there's also the frequency of 1,2,3, etc letter words, and really how many are there? unless u went and had ppl trying to send a message resort to only a somewhat limited vocabulary, and have a number represent each word. and these numbers could be written down using some obscure numbering system, like based on 17's or something. hehe, like hexa-decimal+1 :D the language used by the encoder would have to be considered. i wonder how much a message in say, french, sent from an english speaking operative to another would confuse things for someone trying to decrypt it. is this something usually suspected, or at least usu taken into consideration, by the decryptor? so there's the question of language. then perhaps the question of content subject - probably different frequencies of letters tend to occur in messages regarding different subjects. or maybe not..? then there's languages like chinese or other such non-alfabetical script. there could be a system of a character representing words, or just syllables. perhaps even a character could be used instead of writing out a very often used sentence. i wonder if for codes that simply exchange character for character, if there is usually a general "formula" that one could apply to be able to change back every character in a message coded in a such a way. that would be pretty complicated to try and decipher. or to make up. then messages could perhaps be written on a computer and a coding computer program could for example save a text or even pic message as pic of a sheet of paper with the message written on it. then it could be transmitted out - the enemy wounldt know what they'd be looking at - they'd be looking for a meassage when they should be trying to put together a picture, and THEN try to decipher whats written on it. but that's complicated and i wonder if it wouldnt require too much computing power and time for an in-the-field operative. hehe - this picture idea reminds me of johny mnemonic :) it might be cool to be a cryptographer :)

modularity, universe as a readout, common knowledge, etc.
just yesterday I had this idea in the shower that life, or maybe better: the universe, is but a complex "graphic" representation of some machine's parameters. Like nowadays maybe if ur monitoring a machine's operation, such as a car, u look at the different gauges and lights, or if ur rich ur looking at ur LCD display that tells u everything: coolant temperature, oil pressure, charging system voltage, speed, RPM's - everything. Well, maybe the universe could be such a "readout", but with so many parameters, that all these dimensions and ways of expressing them are necessary. just think of the being that's able to "read" all this stuff and understand it... first maybe simple things, like the distances between objects: so and so much on the vertical axis, so much on the horizontal and this much in depth. But then the objects themselves, so many of them, and of so many different kinds: a rock has its parameters, its describable by a mathematical equation, or actually a number of them, something for weight, something for density, something for volume and shape, something for texture, something for color. But I guess for something as un-complex u'd have an equation that's realtively small, esp as compared to plants or animals. Still, every object would probably have its own "equation", because it has its boundaries, physical limits. Hehe - unless rocks have dimensions to them we do not know about because it would be virtually impossible for us to detect. Hehe, like looking at an iceberg floating: looks like an ice mountain but actually all u see above water is only one third of the whole thing. Hehe, maybe rocks only seem dead to us because in so far as our senses detect, there's nothing more to them. But maybe in reality they're part of a larger "system" or equation, or "iceberg". And on our side of the "water" only this dead rock sticks out :) but that's a whole other discussion. Ok, so the universe is one big equation that's composed of all these other sub-equations, which are practically like modules. Like for example a person is one module, or sub-equation. With its own sub-equations, or modules, like for all ur physical characteristics, and modules that would be connected to all these physical modules, like for example the equation for movement would modify the equations governing/describing the physical aspects of a person. Another equation would have to do w/ feeling, another w/ thinking. Some equations would be more "powerful" than others, in terms of how much they would be able to affect other equations. Hehe, so we're a readout for a machine, and we delude ourselves that we have free will :D of course it would be more "comfortable" if I phrased it like our universe IS the real thing, and how its cool that it could all be described by one great equation, composed of many smaller ones. Hehe, but then again, if we are just a readout, or an equation for something, but this equation is so complex that it had to be encoded as particles, which would be woven into atoms, which would be knitted into molecules, which would be sawn into for example DNA. Which would be braided into persons, which would be modified by ideas, and other such curious "interactions" of other molecules in this person. Imagine: the whole universe is a readout, and someone just made it not w/ the purpose of writing a useless, extremely complex equation, but beacause they needed this equation or readout to describe something else. And they look at it all the time, reading it, all the parameters, all the sizes, and shapes and colours, and interactions, and ideas we think we have - its all part of a "picture" to them. Hehe - to make sure their galactic toaster oven doesn't burn out! :) we're the readout for the most complex toaster oven ever! It needs a whole universe to describe just whats going on with it! :) krazy... :) but ya, the general idea i suppose being that something can be described or represented as something else, perhaps for the purpose of simplification, or perhaps just because we are not yet able to see an electron, but we can sorta describe its bahaviour thru math equations or models we build etc.
but back to speaking of modules, I was also recently thinking of the modularity of language, how it started probably w/ more concrete thoughts, for concrete objects. Like the word "stone" describes only a stone. No ambiguity. U may not be able to see one but u know what it is. U may not even be able to draw one: but from that single word you infer a whole list of things u know about a stone: what makes a stone. The word is like an equation that describes the object. Like a module. Possibly a stereotype. When u think of the word "stone", u can probably think of it in concrete terms, like what it can be used for, what one might feel like, its size. But ur able to hold this "module" in ur attention, work with it. And so, more complex things were brought into light: feelings and other abstract ideas suddenly arent fleeting thoughts that u don't know what to make of, because u can hold onto their idea. U can even communicate this to someone else. But this someone else still has to be similar enough of an equation that parameters ur trying to convey are not alien to them: ur equation must be similar to their equation, so that the equation of an idea u had can fit similarly into their equation. Silly way to think about all this, eh? :) anyways, as u can see, I'm jumping from idea to idea, none of it is realy crystalized yet, or nicely "modularized" :), but I think I got some definite "clouding", or densening going on, like when jello starts to "cloud" or whatev? :) thought u might enjoy some of tomek's theorising once in a while :) another idea I had recently was that people keep having good ideas all the time, but probably most of those ideas "die out", or get "lost", b/c they don't get the necessary dissemination/propagation to reach a "critical mass" as it were, meaning, to be held by a large enough number of minds worldwide so that this idea doesn't die out, but is worked with, thought of, maybe even built upon or improved. fuck, it can even be ridiculed or whatever, as long as its talked about, it should catch on somewhere eventually if there's anything to it, right? :) Hehe - would be kinda cool to be able to say that an idea that has reached the status of "common knowledge" was originated by you... hehe, what about an idea that revolutionized something - sweeeeet! :D Like kopernik (none of this copernicus shit) - before this dude, it was common knowledge that the earth is flat. Motherfucker just went and proved them all wrong! Of course it took a few hundred years to sink in, but still :) now its common knowledge that the earth is round, or elliptical or whatev - a roughly spherical shape. I wonder what the next "big" idea will be... But anyhow, so if u want to spread an idea or something, if that tickles ur fancy, then u wanna try and give it maximum, possibly global coverage, yes? [hehe, or just by-pass the "hierarchy" and send it into outer space right away - maybe that'll finally convince "them" that there is some intelligent life on earth :)] Well, welcome to the age of the internet! Dudes have been playing w/ disseminating stuff for a while, but it seems most of it is crap = spam. Seems like they're trying to just be seen by everyone, and sometimes it works pretty good - like those emails that claim that the "make a wish" foundation is donating 6 cents for every forward of this email towards a child's heart transplant operation. It gets u, ur like - ok, I'll foreward this, out of pity or whatever works. So the messenger is pretty good, it gets disseminated to many people. But its ultimately empty - no real message to it, no value, at least not in my eyes. But if something in that format were used, but with a payload consisting of a cool idea, then if that got into many minds, and some ppl talked about it, then that would be awesome! But how do u do it? What, just email a dissertation to everybody and their friggin dog? I suppose some ppl would read it, but I don't think we'd be talking anywhere near the magnitude of critical mass. So what, disguise it? Hehe, maybe that's what these spam emails all are, and here I am, thinking I thought of a cool new idea :D maybe all these seemingly annoying spam emails have some kinda message embedded in them, maybe pieces of, so maybe all these pieces are just sorta laying dormant in all these minds, but one day the pieces are gonna start coming together into whatever ideas they were designed to be by whoever designed them. For whoever knows what purpose. Hehe - its the illuminati! Hilarious :D I just sometimes wonder if just adding ideas to the "collective" before attempting to screen them for possible future misuses is a good idea, or should I try and be a bit responsible? Of course one cant be expected to foresee everything, but if something jumps out at you, then perhaps telling the world how to make an atom bomb out of ingredients u'd find in a kitchen would be inadvisable.
